THE SAGA OF MODULAR GAS CYLINDER INSTALLATIONS CONTINUES

With the supplier of these systems into Africa taking the decision to stop the supply of inverted gas modules into the market the installers continue with their bad habits.

On two recent inspections we found upright modules installed in an inverted manner, with the nozzle at the bottom, even though this meant that the label was upside down and difficult to read.

This would have resulted in the gas not extinguishing a fire as the dip tube will be pointed sky ward and have only nitrogen to dispel!!

A GOLD STAR TO FIRE AND SECURITY TECHNIQUES

Pic09In discussions with the manufacturer of this equipment they informed us that they are one step ahead and have produced a new label showing the mounting position of the cylinder with an arrow depicting “This Way Up”.

Here’s hoping installers take a little more care and read the gas cylinder labels properly before ploughing ahead with the installation.
